Thu JAN 09 Archives 101 People know museums, people know libraries, but archives often remain a mystery. This is the chance to get introduced to the fantastic historical resources at the Galt Archives. Tour the archival facility, learn the rules and procedures, and find out how to search for records through our easy-to-use online database.



Mon FEB 17 join us for Family History Day from 1:00 – 5:00 pm: A fun-filled afternoon for the whole family! Come dressed up and have your photo taken with our historic photo cut outs, enjoy hands-on crafts featuring archival photos, find ways to tell your family history story, and learn how to research family history. Admission free.

Thu MAR 20 Secret Women’s Magazine Writer and historian Jenna Bailey tells the story of a group of British women who produced a secret magazine for over half a century starting in the 1930s.  They formed lifelong friendships by corresponding about every aspect of their private lives.  Dr. Bailey will also explore how she combined archival research and oral history interviews to reveal the story in her bestselling book, Can Any Mother Help Me? (Faber and Faber). 

Thu APR 10 How to Research Your House Have you ever wondered about the history of your home? The Archives can help you discover interesting facts about your place and the neighbourhood around it. You can find out the date the building was built, the original owner, photographs of the property and even maps of the vicinity from 100 years ago!
