Our Christmas Meter Plugging Program is in full swing!

Downtown shoppers shouldn't be surprised if they find a thank-you note instead of a ticket on their windshield this Christmas season.

The Downtown Lethbridge BRZ kicked off their third annual Christmas Meter Plugging Program last week, which is our way of thanking shoppers for spending time in the downtown. Our group of 14 student ambassadors have been braving the elements while plugging parking meters that are either expired or about to expire, giving shoppers an extra 15 minutes of time. They also leave behind a note explaining the program and thanking shoppers for their patronage.

We hope the program will encourage more people to come downtown and shop or dine at a locally owned business. Two to three times as much money spent stays in the local economy when you buy goods and services from locally owned businesses. As well, our downtown business owners pride themselves on providing expert product knowledge and exceptional customer service.

So if you're shopping in the downtown and see someone with a Christmas hat plugging your meter or leaving a note on your windshield, be sure to thank them for their hard work.

Last year our ambassadors plugged approximately 9,500 parking meters between December 8 and December 24. This year's program runs Monday to Friday from December 9 to the 24, with the regular free downtown parking on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Christmas Meter Plugging Program is a partnership between the City of Lethbridge's Heart of Our City and the Downtown Business Revitalization Zone. The DBRZ runs a similar meter-plugging program during the months of July and August.
