Wear your best plaid and celebrate the diversity of Downtown Lethbridge this holiday season!

The thought of Christmas shopping brings feelings of stress and panic to many people. This year, downtown Lethbridge is promoting a more relaxed shopping experience while focusing on locally owned and operated small businesses. Playing off of the popularity of Black Friday sales events, the Downtown merchants will be offering up some great shopping deals, in a fun, enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere on December 6-7.

The Plaid theme came from a desire to create a shopping alternative by celebrating the unique diversity of small businesses in our downtown. Plaid sums up the idea perfectly – independent, interwoven colours working in perfect harmony to create a whole image.

“One of our goals is to bring back the neighbourly, nostalgic times when shopping for friends and family was a pleasurable activity, says Ted Stilson, Executive Director of the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ. Shoppers could brave large crowds and certainly find some deals, but why endure such a stressful experience when there are great deals, quality items, exceptional customer service and product knowledge to be found in our downtown. We are blessed with so many incredible shopping choices in our downtown. With our wide selection of restaurants and coffee shops, our downtown is also a welcoming and relaxing place to take a shopping break. By making the decision to shop at small businesses in our downtown, your purchase not only benefits the gift recipient, a significant percentage of those dollars also go back into the local economy”.

In addition to the Plaid Days sales event, shoppers can take a hayride throughout the downtown, enjoy listening to carolers dressed in historical costumes and, of course, wear plaid to show their support for downtown businesses.
